  • What flow rate is required for my bathroom extractor fan?
Building regulations require bathroom fans to have an extraction rate of at least 15L/s. The fans we recommend exceed this standard.

  • What are the different types of cooker hood?
There are varying styles of cooker hood. These include, chimney hoods, canopy hoods, integrated hoods, island hoods and downdraft hoods. Another Kitchen extraction solution is a specialist wall mounted axial fan.
  • What is a Cooker Hood?
A cooker hood is a kitchen appliance equipped with a mechanical fan designed to eliminate fumes, odours, heat, and airborne grease from the environment. Typically located above ovens and stoves, they are suitable for both domestic and commercial settings, varying in size and scale accordingly. Common alternative names for cooker hoods include exhaust hoods, extractor hoods, and range hoods, which you may be more familiar with.
  • Where should I put my Cooker Hood?
The optimal placement for your cooker hood depends on several factors, including: The available space above your cooking area The layout of your kitchen Your accessibility to the area above your cooking station Your preferred aesthetic Any additional features you may require, such as integrated lighting or specific design elements. For smaller cooking spaces, a ceiling-mounted range hood is advantageous as it doesn't occupy valuable wall or overhead space. If your cooking area is situated on a kitchen island or beneath limited overhead space, options like island cooker hoods or downdraft cooker hoods are worth considering.
  • Do I need a Cooker Hood?
There are no legal requirements mandating the installation of a cooker hood in your kitchen. However, we highly recommend having one as it can enhance the safety and cleanliness of your cooking environment. It's worth noting that in the UK, regulations for new build properties stipulate the necessity of a mechanism for removing condensation and steam from the kitchen to prevent mould formation. While a wall-mounted extractor fan can fulfil this requirement, a cooker hood is often the preferred and easier-to-install option.
  • How powerful does a Cooker Hood need to be?
For continuous extraction a Cooker Hood needs to extract 13 litres of air a second. In reality, you may need a different requirement depending on where the cooker hood is located in relation to your oven and hob. We are able to advise you on a suitable solution for you specific kitchen.
